01 / WHAT IT IS

Live in Spain, work for the world

The digital nomad visa (DNV) lets you live in Spain while working remotely for companies or clients outside Spain. In 2026 it requires a minimum income of €2,849 per month, proof of qualifications or 3 years' experience, and at least 3 months' history with your employer or clients. Filed from within Spain, it grants a residence permit of up to 3 years.

It fits remote employees of foreign companies and freelancers with an international client base — including couples and families relocating together. It does not fit you if most of your income comes from Spanish clients: Spanish-sourced work is capped at 20% of your activity.

02 / REQUIREMENTS 2026

What the UGE will ask of you

Minimum income of €2,849/month

(200% of Spain's 2026 minimum wage), proven through your contract, recurring invoices or bank statements. Higher thresholds apply when you include family members.

200% SMI · 2026

Remote work for non-Spanish companies or clients.

At most 20% of your income may come from Spanish clients.

Professional relationship of at least 3 months

With your employer or clients before applying; the company must have been operating for at least 1 year.

Qualifications

A university degree, or at least 3 years of professional experience in your field.

Social security coverage

A certificate of coverage from your home country (where a treaty exists — the US and UK both have one) or registration as self-employed (autónomo) in Spain. This is the requirement that sinks more applications than any other; we resolve it before filing.

The #1 DIY failure point

Clean criminal record (last 5 years) and health coverage.

2026 tightening: the UGE now checks contract, income and social security coverage for consistency, document by document. "Probably fine" no longer is.

04 / FEES

One figure, full scope, in writing

[PENDIENTE CLIENTE — decisión hueco 9]

A fixed fee, agreed in writing before you pay anything, itemising legal fees, government fees, and what is included (family members, official requests, follow-up through TIE). You will know the full cost before you commit. If the scope changes, the price changes in writing — never by surprise.

05 / FAQ

Digital nomad visa, without the fine print

€2,849 per month — 200% of the Spanish minimum wage for 2026. Adding family members raises the threshold for each dependant. Income is evidenced with your employment contract, recurring client invoices or recent bank statements; the UGE cross-checks these against your social security position.

You can apply yourself, and some people succeed. The honest picture: since 2026 the UGE applies stricter document standards, and the most common DIY failures — social security coverage, income consistency, apostille chains — are technical, not obvious. A lawyer makes sense if your dates matter or your case has any wrinkle. We tell you in the eligibility check if your case is simple enough to do alone.

The legal decision period at the UGE is 20 working days from filing, with silence counting as approval. The realistic total timeline depends on preparation — apostilles, sworn translations and the social security certificate usually set the pace. You get a written timeline with dates in the eligibility check, and we hold ourselves to it.

From Spain is usually better: you receive a residence permit of up to 3 years directly, instead of a 1-year visa from the consulate. You can file from Spain while here legally as a tourist within your 90 days. We confirm the right route for your nationality and timing before anything is filed.

Yes. Your spouse or partner and children can be included in the same application or join later. Each dependant adds an income requirement on top of your €2,849/month. We prepare the family documents — marriage and birth certificates, apostilles, translations — alongside yours so everyone is approved together.

DNV holders who meet the conditions can opt into Spain's inpatriate regime ("Beckham law"), taxing employment income at a flat 24% up to €600,000. The election has strict deadlines after registration, so the tax decision must travel with the immigration one. We coordinate this analysis as part of your relocation plan.

You will. The most repeated complaint about immigration firms in Spain is that "after the initial consultation they ignore you". Our process is built against that: one named lawyer owns your case, you get proactive updates at every milestone on WhatsApp, and questions are answered within [PENDIENTE CLIENTE: SLA] — in English.
